Getting and Keeping the First Job

A job? How can your child, teen or young adult with a disability prepare for the future and potential employment?
Participants will learn the importance of disability self-awareness, how families can help youth with career planning, and strategies to navigate resumes, job interviews, and job accommodations. Particular attention is paid to the role of families in the career exploration and job hunting process. The message of the session is simple: families who understand the world of work, and who maintain high expectations of their youth, can play a pivotal role in the employment success of youth with disabilities. Learn strategies on how to help your child or teen learn new ways to build job skills at home…it’s never to early or to late!
